Coin Grading is subjective. It has been proven many times in the past that the same exact coin was submitted to a top notch grading company and then once it was returned it was submitted to the same grading company several more times. Each time the coin came back with different grades. There have been additional tests with sending the same coin to different grading companies and getting very different results. The simple truth of the matter is coin grading is an opinion and not a science.

Who is the ANA? They can be found at www.money.org The ANA is not a law enforcement agency.

The mission of the ANA the American Numismatic Association is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to educating and encouraging people to study and collect money and related items. With nearly 33,000 members, the Association serves the academic community, collectors and the general public with an interest in numismatics.

The ANA helps all people discover and explore the world of money through its vast array of programs including its education and outreach, museum, library, publications, conventions and seminars.

In short the ANA is a company with a Federal Charter to promote the good of coin collecting and to provide standards that it adopts for its members. If a person chooses to be a member of the ANA then they must agree to the standards of the ANA. If a person chooses not to be a member of the ANA then they are not required to follow its standards.

If you are going to grade coins then you may decide if you want to be a member of the ANA or if you prefer just to not be a member of the ANA. In my opinion the ANA is in disarray, they have lawsuits pending against each other and their directors. The ANA could be a lot better than what they are but politics and greed along with petty jealousies has caused the organization a great deal of problems.

Another factor in deciding if you want to join the ANA is how the business works today. Before the popularity of the internet most coins were sold by small coin stores located in most towns across the US. Today that is no longer true. The vast majority of coins are sold on the internet. The majority of small coins stores have gone out of business.

If you are going to sell coins to earn money then in my opinion you want to have a presence on the internet. Your presence should be through a web site and also on the different auction companies such as eBay.

Let’s explore the type of coins you are likely to sell. You are going to be involved with coins that retail for an average of less than $200.00. There is no way you are going to be selling million dollar coins to people around the world. There are only a few companies that perform those services and their companies are worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Who started coin grading?

Actually the ANA started coin grading and then sold the service and it has been sold over again. Ten years ago there were three major grading companies. The amount of grading companies is on the rise. Anyone has the right to be a grading company. There are no laws that a person must grade to a certain standard and there is no license required to be a coin grading company.
Why would a person want to start a coin grading company?

In a capitalistic society most companies rise and fall under the law of supply and demand. There are billions of dollars of graded coins sold in the world every year. You can easily become a coin grader and get a share of that market. You can get started for less than fifty dollars and have the potential to have millions of dollars in sales each year with little effort.

If this is so easy then explain why many more people have not started a coin grading business?
That is easy to explain and that is where I came into the picture to resolve the problem for you. Professional coin grading companies put their coins into a specially designed professional coin holder and that coin holder and design has to be complete by the injection mold process, it cots as much as one hundred thousand dollars to get a coin holder designed and produced. My company has developed a professional coin certification holder that people can use and the holder is better than the holders used by the top grading companies today. The holders cost between $1.50 and $2.99.

The major problem has been resolved and you can get a sample kit for $5.00 that will explain it all to you.

How would I know what to do and how to get started? I know very little about the coin business?

I have solved that problem for you also. I am retired and I have a business of selling my coin holders. I understand it is new to the people starting a coin grading business. I work very closely with people who buy my holders. I teach them every facet of the business. The service is free; once you are all setup then I have a client for life.

How do I get started?

Just send me an email that you would like to get started in the business or at least look into the possibility of getting started in the business. I will send you a starter kit with all the instructions on how to get started.
